Making a decision

Once a topic has been sufficiently prepared — all participants have had the chance to contribute their perspectives and the proposal has matured — it is time to make a decision.

Creating a decision

Click the Make a decision button below the live editor. A dialog appears where you choose the appropriate decision mode:

  • Discussion-based — e.g. consensus or consent
  • Vote-based — e.g. majority vote, distributing points, or ranking

For details on individual modes, see Decision modes.

Sentiment check

With every mode, you can enable the Sentiment check option. This means the topic will not be marked as decided afterwards. Instead, you get a sense of the current mood without committing to a binding outcome. This is useful for configuring a later, formal vote more effectively.

Choosing a deadline and starting

After creating the decision, you have two options:

  • Start now — choose a deadline immediately and the decision begins
  • Start later — prepare the decision and launch it at a later time

Available deadline presets include: 2 hours, 24 hours, 2 days, 3 days, and no deadline.

When selecting a deadline, you can see whether it falls within the configured working hours. If you are outside working hours, the deadline begins at the start of the next working period.

Editing or deleting a decision

As long as a decision has not been started, you can edit or delete it via the three-dot menu on the decision card.

Outcome

When the deadline expires, there are three possible outcomes:

  • Successful — the required majority was reached or no objections were raised
  • Tie — multiple options received the same number of votes or points; a new round can be initiated
  • Failed — the decision fails, for example due to a veto or lack of participation

Who can start a decision?

Not all members can always initiate decisions. This depends on the facilitation mode configured for the group. Depending on the setting, only people with a facilitation role or the topic creators may be allowed to start decisions.
