Co-creating

A topic belongs to one or more groups. Anyone who is a member of one of these groups can help shape the topic.

It’s possible, but not compulsory. Membership opens the door; whether someone walks through it is up to them. In a discussion with thirty participants, perhaps five will post.

Sometimes there is someone missing who does not belong to any of the groups involved – an insight from a different field, someone with specialist knowledge. This person can be added individually to the discussion.

What ‘helping to shape’ involves

Working on the topic: writing, replying, commenting, creating proposals and tasks, collaborating on the document, setting a deadline, priority, keywords and topic type.

Managing the process: creating and initiating decisions, extending deadlines, incorporating or overruling objections, cancelling or invalidating a decision, resolving, reopening or archiving the issue – and deleting it.**

There is no separate role for the latter. Anyone who can help shape things can do both.

!!! Note: "Only in open threads" Once a thread has been solved or archived, it no longer accepts contributions from anyone. Anyone wishing to continue working on it must first reopen it.

Why there are no special roles

Rhizome relies on you knowing one another. If someone makes a decision they’re not authorised to make, you’ll notice – and sort it out amongst yourselves. That’s a matter for your organisation, not something the software should have to deal with.

What remains is traceability: every action that influences the process is linked to a name and a time. No one has to guess who closed a decision or reopened an issue.
