None of these¶
none of these is an additional option on the ballot paper. Anyone who selects this option is voting against all the proposals.
If they win, the vote will have failed – no proposal will be adopted.
When she’ll be there¶
You enable it in the Proposals section when creating a decision – it is not selected by default. It is offered as soon as there is a proposal to which it might apply, and only in the case of joint decisions.
Once this option is enabled, the only choices left are the voting methods: majority vote, vote of no confidence, ranking and dot poll. Rhizome tells you that too. In the discussion-oriented and role-based methods, there is no ‘none of these’ option – you cannot vote against all proposals there, because there is no selection option in that sense.
The tick is therefore also a way of applying the method: anyone who ticks the box has already answered the question of whether a vote will take place.
What for?¶
Otherwise, a vote forces you to give an answer, even if none of the options provided are suitable. Without this option, the only way to express this is not to vote at all – and that comes across as a lack of interest, not as dissent.
A failure resulting in ‘none of these’ is therefore an outcome rather than a failure: the group has decided that none of the proposals is better than the status quo.
